“Super Nintendo World”, the World’s First Area in USJ
The “Super Nintendo World” reenacts the world of Nintendo games and popular characters such as Super Mario.It is a huge complex area with ride attractions, interactive areas, stores, and restaurants. The creative team at Nintendo, led by Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario and creator of many popular Nintendo titles including “The Legend of Zelda,” has been involved in the creation of “Super Nintendo World,” which will continue to expand!

The “Power Up Bands”, wristwatch-shaped wristbands that allow you to experience the game world as if you were in it, are sold in the area.By using these wristbands in conjunction with a special smartphone application, guests can record the number of coins they earn from the dozens of “HATENA BLOCKS,” and participate in a real-time ranking competition with other guests!
Mario Kart and Yoshi’s Ride Attractions
At “Mario Kart – Bowser’s Challenge”, you can actually get into a Mario Kart and take the wheel to experience a race. Mario, Luigi, and the rest of the gang are right next to you as you drift and spin through the course. You can enjoy a heated race while using familiar tricks such as item boxes.
Meet & Greet where you can meet Mario & Luigi
In “Meet & Greet,” you can not only meet and take pictures with Mario and Luigi, but you can also enjoy conversations with them. The conversations with Mario and his friends are also linked to the power-up band, making the experience even more of a pleasant surprise.
“Chef Toad”‘s restaurant, Toad Cafe
The Toad House, which is familiar from video games, has opened as the playful “Toad Cafe. This restaurant is the largest restaurant in Universal Studios Japan in number of seats. The popular character “Toad” will appear as “Chef Toad,” an original character only for Universal Studios Japan, and will serve a happy food.
The “Oneup Factory” goods store
At the “Oneup Factory,” which you will reach after passing through the earthen pipe entrance, you will find a wide variety of goods of various characters such as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, Bowser, Goomba, etc. In addition, “Tokotoko Mario,” which was planned and developed by Nintendo’s development team, will be sold for the first time in the world.

Expect a collaboration with Pokemon!
On October 6, 2021, the company announced that it had formed a medium- to long-term strategic alliance with Pokémon for the development and provision of new in-park entertainment, and that several development projects are underway based on this alliance. The first collaboration project is expected to be launched by the end of 2022.
As popular as Mario is, Pokémon is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and I’m looking forward to the collaboration with USJ!
