Japanese Theme Parks During Halloween
Japan doesn’t celebrate Halloween exactly like the United States does, but they sure do put an emphasis on the holiday at their amusement parks. Tokyo Disneyland, Universal Studios, and Sanrio Puroland are three major amusement parks in Japan that take Halloween to the next level. In fact, Tokyo Disneyland’s celebration of Halloween in 2000 was the catalyst for the growing popularity of Halloween in Japan.
Universal Studios Japan
Universal Studios Japan in Osaka hosts “Halloween Horror Nights” throughout the month of September featuring spooky versions of their popular characters as well as haunted houses you can walk through. There is also a featured Halloween-themed movie ride that draws in guests from all over. Guests can also trick-or-treat with the park staff for candy!
Sanrio Puroland
Sanrio Puroland, also known as Hello Kitty Land Tokyo, hosts the Puro Halloween Party as a special annual event for the fall season. Sanrio thrives in the cosplay community, which makes this theme park a great place for dressing up on Halloween. During the day, visitors and guests alike dress in Halloween costumes, the characters taking pictures with the guests and later put on a parade. Sanrio Puroland also offers exclusive halloween themed meals in their food courts and restaurants throughout the Halloween season.
Tokyo Disneyland
Tokyo Disneyland is a big deal in Japan, and an even bigger deal during holiday seasons. During the Halloween season, the entire theme park is redecorated to match the Halloween spirit. The main event of the Halloween season is the “Spooky Boo!” parade, which features over 100 floats and really brings Halloween magic to life.
