Places in the US Where you can find Fantastic Japanese Artwork
Japanese art is known for its range of amazing styles and methods, many being rooted in tradition. From woodblock prints to painting, these pieces are worth seeing. If you can’t make it out to Japanese museums to see some of the most famous Japanese pieces of art, here are some places in the United States that feature original Japanese art.
The Cleveland Museum of Art
The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the wealthiest art museums in the United States, and is located in Cleveland, Ohio in the Wade Park District. This museum is home to over 61,000 works of art from all over the world, including Japanese works. The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the most visited art museums in the world, and has one of the best collections of Japanese art besides Japan itself. When the Cleveland Museum of Art first opened it acquired the woodblock prints of Okumura Masanobu and Kitagawa Utamaro, both highly praised artists from the 15th through the 17th century. Today, the Cleveland Museum of Art has over 1,950 pieces of Japanese art in different styles and from different time periods.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Met)
Located in New York City, the art museum located along the Museum Mile on the eastern edge of Central Park on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the MET is the largest art museum in the west. The MET is divided in 17 different departments, the art museum being home to one of the largest art museums in the world. Originally founded in 1870, the MET has expanded to include artwork from all over the world. The Department of Asian Art in the MET was opened in 2015, and showcases over 200 pieces of Japanese art that dates back to the late 17th century. The Incredibly famous piece by Hokusai, Great Wave, is among one of their many incredible and renowned pieces.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is remarkable for collecting modern art as it develops and influences the present day. That being said, MoMA doesn’t have collections of historical Japanese art but instead focuses on more recent pieces. Some of these works include the art of Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami. This is a great place to see the future of Japanese art both from Japan and by Japanese-American artists!
